Church video has a shape almost no commercial workflow shares. There is a new recording every week whether anyone is ready or not, the person operating the camera is a volunteer who may be different from last week, and the archive goes back further than anybody planned for.
That combination rewards workflows that are simple and repeatable far more than ones that are powerful.
The weekly job
Most of the work is the same four steps every time: trim the dead air at the start and end, level the audio so the sermon and the music are both audible, compress the file so it will upload before Tuesday, and cut two or three short clips for social.
Being able to ask for those in plain English matters more here than in most settings, because the person doing it this week may not have done it last week. A workflow that needs remembering where a setting lives is a workflow that breaks the moment the usual volunteer is away.
Audio is the whole game
Congregations forgive a soft picture and will not forgive audio they cannot follow. The common faults are a speaker who moves off the microphone, a music segment far louder than the spoken word, and room noise from the back.
Levelling the quiet parts up rather than raising everything is what makes a recording listenable on a phone speaker, which is how most of the congregation will actually watch it. Do that before compressing, not after.
Take the feed from the sound desk if there is one. A camera microphone at the back of a room with a PA in it is fighting a losing battle, and no processing fixes that.
Low light and long lenses
Sanctuaries are usually darker than they look, and volunteers often shoot from the back on a long lens, which is the worst combination for both noise and shake. Denoise before any brightening, or you amplify the noise along with the picture. Stabilization helps genuine handheld movement; it will not fix the wobble from a long lens on a cheap tripod head, which is often rolling shutter rather than shake.
The archive nobody has time for
Most churches have a shelf of tapes and DVDs of anniversaries, weddings and funerals going back decades. That material is genuinely worth restoring, and it responds well, because the faults are the recoverable kind: low resolution, analogue noise, interlacing.
Deinterlace first, then denoise, then upscale. Almost all of it will be interlaced, and an upscaler run first will sharpen the comb artefacts into something much harder to remove.
Batch processing is the practical route for a shelf rather than a clip, and because everything runs on the machine there is no per-minute billing on a job that might run overnight.
Privacy is not an abstract concern here
Services include children, funerals, baptisms and people who did not choose to be filmed. Uploading that to a third-party service to process it is a conversation most churches would rather not have. Crisp runs entirely on the machine, with nothing transmitted, which makes the answer short.

It does not generate captions from speech, which matters because accessibility is a real obligation for many congregations, and that needs a transcription service. It has no multicam sync, so a genuinely multi-camera edit belongs in an NLE. And it will not fix audio recorded on a camera microphone at the back of a hall.
